Cookery Essential Skills [HPT]

Course intent

To provide basic cookery skills so you can prepare meals at home.

What will I learn?

This short course has a course workbook containing all you need to know. The workbook contains all the course recipes.

Essential Skills has a specific focus each week: · Soup Week: Introducing knife skills, boiling, simmering, tasting and flavours. · Stir Fry Week: Introducing sautéing, steaming and new flavours. · Curry Week: Introducing frying and marinades. · Tray Bake Week: What goes well with what? · Free choice Week: As agreed by the class.

Throughout the Essential Skills course you will also focus on: · Eating for good health and specific diets · Basic mathematics using various weights, volumes, measurements, and budgeting. · Nutrition · Kitchen safety and food hygiene · Store cupboard ingredients and improved shopping.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course welcomes all non-cooks and beginner cooks

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Please ensure you have completed the following before the first session: · Returned a completed food allergies & dietary requirements form (you will receive a link in an email) · You will be emailed the recipe and shopping lists for the first class. You will be given recipes and shopping lists each week for the following class.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Next steps will be the Confidence Builder course. For more information, please ask your tutor. It would be great to see you again.
