Drawing & Painting - Advanced

High volumes of enquiries - July 2024

Due to high numbers of enquiries, there are currently longer waiting times on the phones and a delay to responses for voicemails, emails and enquiries.

We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

This course will help you to establish a range of advanced methods of drawing & painting using a sketchbook, photographs, found images and direct observation.

What will I learn?

You will

  • Develop individual skills in tone, colour and composition
  • Researching & inspiring other artists work
  • Gain confidence in using both drawing and painting materials
  • Have access to one to one support
  • Discover and develop your abilities through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques
  • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for improving and advanced painters with a good understanding of the subject. Particularly for those who want to be encouraged to develop a more creative, or abstract approach.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring:

    • Drawing & painting materials you may already have purchased
    • A pad of A3 cartridge paper
    • Soft grade of pencils (4B or 6B)
    • A soft rubber and/or a graphite stick
    • Notebook and pen

Any materials and resources that you may need throughout the course will be discussed at induction.

If you have any queries, please email the tutor at adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk

What can I do when I finish the course?

In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto further Arts & Crafts courses. Learners may wish to continue with advanced courses or select one covering different painting materials or techniques in more depth.
