Course intent

This course is suitable for all levels, focusing on quality stitching and all the techniques you need to create beautiful works of embroidery.

You will learn with an RSN (Royal School of Needlework) trained professional embroiderer and RSN tutor and recipient of the Embroiders Guild, Beryl Dean Award for Teaching Excellence.

Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through learning embroidery in a friendly, creative learning environment.

What will I learn?

You will learn: · Preparation techniques, including framing up and tracing designs · Different techniques of designing using a variety of resources · Take inspiration from contemporary and historical techniques · The most useful and most commonly used stitches · How to develop your skills, become confident with new stitches and techniques · The importance of a clean and tidy studio

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for all abilities.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring: · A sketchbook and pencil · Light-coloured cotton fabric (e.g. calico) · A variety of stranded cottons · A selection of different sized needles · Embroidery scissors · An 8-inch ring frame is preferred but any size is acceptable

These items and other optional equipment will be available to purchase on the day at additional cost.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can continue on the embroidery course for a more in-depth personal development, or to join other Surrey Adult Learning courses to enhance further learning.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
