We apologise for any inconvenience and are working as quickly as possible to get to you.

Course intent

Explore the craft of upholstery and learn traditional and modern techniques in a relaxed environment.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to: · Work in a healthy and safe environment · Apply traditional techniques (springs, hair etc.) and modern techniques (foam) to upholstery. · Strip furniture including basic wood repairs · Choose and apply the correct fillings, upholstery fabric and sundries. · Apply other techniques such as deep & shallow buttoning, making up piping cord & box cushions

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is suitable for beginners or those with a little or more experience who may have done a one-day workshop.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring: · A sketchbook and pen. · Small/medium item of furniture to be upholstered: stool, dining chair, small armchair or headboard. · Any upholstery tools you may have · Your chosen fabric for your piece

If your piece of furniture has materials that have been made fire retardant, these will contain persistent organic pollutants, POPs. Due to new Health & Safety law, if you remove this material from the furniture, you will need to take the material away yourself and dispose of it off the premises.

If there are any queries, please email the tutor at adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk
