Course intent

You will gain a good basic knowledge of office programmes such as Word-processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations, and email management, using Windows, essential for today’s administration roles. By using the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, used in most work settings, you can upskill for improved employment options or be more productive within your personal administration. All skills covered are transferrable to other software and platforms.

    There are three ways to apply on this course. You can: · complete the form on our website; · call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or

    visit one of our centres.

    We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

    What will I learn?

    You will use the Windows operating system, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook or their equivalent to: · Create, rename, send, and delete documents, spreadsheets, and emails · Identify each programme and state its purpose · Show how to search for and review online information · Show how to save and print from each programme · Apply basic formatting to text and paragraphs in both documents and emails · Create a simple spreadsheet using basic functions and basic formatting · Insert pictures/online images/charts in each programme · Manage contacts and calendars · Use and file email attachments efficiently · Effective use of File Explorer to navigate your Windows environment · Look at different Social Media platforms and their use · Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for anyone with basic computer skills, i.e. using a keyboard, mouse or laptop touch pad and can save files and folders with confidence.

    If you are completely new to computers, please look at our Windows PC Digital Skills & Confidence – Stage 1 first.

    If you are using Apple Mac products such as iBooks or iPads, please look at our range of Apple Mac & iPad courses.

    If you can confidently answer yes to all the questions below, then this is the course for you. · Can you confidently create and name a folder, save a file, and then find it again? · Do you know the difference between a left click and a right click with a mouse? · Do you know the difference between a browser and a search engine? · Can you confidently find a file on your computer and attach it to an email? · Can you confidently add and delete an app to your start menu and task bar? · Do you understand copyright law when using images in documents?

    As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    You need to bring: · a notebook and pen
