Course intent

You will use the popular Word software, part of the Microsoft Office suite, to develop and enhance more advanced documents, using advanced formatting and page layouts. Word is a powerful word-processing tool which can help you produce professional letters, CVs brochures, flyers, cards, mailshots and much more. By the end of this course, you will have developed an advanced knowledge of Word, enabling you to create professional and referenced documents.

If you use/have used a different word-processing programme, the skills learned here are transferrable.

What will I learn?

You will: · Use referencing features and create tables of contents · Use advanced Page layout features such as Headers, Footers, page numbering & Section dividers · Create Mail merge documents and develop macros · Master documents and subdocuments, watermarks, sections, headers and footers · Create and format tables · Use fields, forms, and templates · Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

This advanced course is for · Anyone with good computer, mouse and keyboard skills · Students, professionals, or anyone who wants to develop advanced skills in Microsoft Word · If you are new to Word-processing, please look at our Introduction or stages 1 - 2 first · If you are completely new to computers, please look at our Digital Skills & Confidence courses

This course will be delivered through a live online session using Zoom

To fully participate in this course, you will need: · An email address · A reliable internet connection · A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser · A working microphone and webcam.

Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

To fully participate in this course, you will need: · Access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection · A working microphone, and webcam

If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.

Although this course is delivered for Word you can transfer your skills to other word-processing software such as Google Docs, Apple’s Pages, WordPad or the free online version of Office.
