Course intent

Develop your speaking and listening skills and recognition of signs/symbols through activities to build your confidence and independence in everyday life.

What will I learn?

During this course you will have the opportunity to:

Build confidence to develop reading, speaking and listening skills.

Recognise commonly used words and personal details.

Understand short sentences and use punctuation.

Blend sounds when reading a short text with a familiar topic.

Obtain information from others, using speaking and listening skills, including social sign awareness.

Follow the main points and contribute to a conversation.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for Entry Level learners with a learning disability, it is designed to help learners progress from their individual starting point to build confidence, independence, and social skills for everyday life.

You need to complete a literacy and numeracy initial assessment prior to enrolling on this course.

You must be able to follow guidance on health and safety and be ready to work as part of a group.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Bring a pen and reading glasses if you use them.
