Course intent

Express your creativity, using a variety of pottery techniques to make items for a mini enterprise sale and raise money for your chosen charity. Develop your communication and numeracy skills and learn how to use equipment safely.

What will I learn?

During this course you will have the opportunity to:

Develop basic clay work and decorating skills to make items for sale.

Identify tools and equipment needed for a chosen project.

Work within your group to choose charities to support.

Develop your communication and numeracy skills.

Establish how to use equipment safely.

Improve confidence and social skills while joining in with group discussions and Enterprise activities.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is for Entry Level learners with a learning disability, it is designed to help learners progress from their individual starting point to build confidence, independence, and social skills for everyday life.

You must be able to follow instructions and be ready to work as part of a group.

You need to be able to use pens, paintbrushes and other equipment with or without support.

You must be willing to get your hands dirty or wear gloves and be able to follow health and safety practices.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Bring an apron, overall or shirt to wear to help avoid clothing getting dirty.

Wear suitable clothes and closed toe shoes.

Bring a pen and reading glasses if you use them.

What can I do when I finish the course?

After this course you could progress to another supported learning course, or further courses with Surrey Adult Learning. We will meet with you to give information, advice, and guidance on your next step.

Additional Information

Bring a drink or money to buy refreshments during a short break.

Carers and/or family members supporting in the class will be required to follow our guidelines and acknowledge they have read our Personal Assistant Agreement.
