Course intent

This course is a great starting point for a non-teaching role in a school or educational setting, as an employee or as a volunteer. Enhance your knowledge, skills and confidence to support children and young people’s learning and development.

Our experienced tutors will help you earn a Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools, boosting your career prospects.

What will I learn?

You will · Explore the education system, · Define the principles of Safeguarding · Develop expertise in effective communication · Demonstrate excellent teamwork · Develop skills to handle the challenges of working with children and young people · Discuss Prevent and British Values

Assessment: You will work towards the OCNLR Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools. Learners are assessed through activities that are internally set by tutor/assessors and then, following internal moderation, learners’ portfolios of assessed evidence will be externally moderated by an OCN London External Moderator.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This is a one-year course for adults aged 19 or over.

Entry Requirements: Completion of a written and an online initial assessment and an interview.

To be successful you will need to · attend all of your classes · work independently · develop your learning skills and understanding outside the classroom through use of online resources and · make visits or volunteer in schools or learning centres for children

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You will need: · A ring binder(folder), lined paper, pens and pencils · Access to a computer/laptop and a printer

Depending on your eligibility, there are no fees to pay for this course.

What can I do when I finish the course?

Gain entry to employment in a non-teaching role within a school or other educational setting.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
