You will be offered a place on a course based on your assessment results and availability.

Course intent

If you are 19 or over the 31st of August 2024, this course can help you progress on to Functional Skills English. The courses are available at Entry Level 3 and Level 1. The courses run for 12 weeks from September to December. You can join a course at one of our centres in: Guildford, Woking, Camberley, and Sunbury. You can also study online. You have the option to study in the daytime or in the evening in a weekly two-hour class.

What will I learn?

We will prepare you for the Functional Skills Maths Entry 3 / Level 1 course.

Delivery Method

You will be taught by a tutor who is a subject specialist at one of our centres or online. We also recommend that you develop your learning skills outside the classroom. You will be supported to do this through use of the Internet, Moodle and BKSB

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

You need to be 19 or over on the 31st of August 2024 and not have a grade A* - D / grade 9 - 3 in GCSE Maths.

Entry Requirements

You will need to complete an online initial assessment. This will help us place you on the correct course. This course will not be right for you if do not get at least Entry 3 in your initial assessment. Please note: If you are an ESOL learner without an Entry 3 ESOL qualification this course will be too hard for you.

Attendance

You will be required to attend at least 90% of your classes. Should your attendance fall below this, your place on the course may be at risk. This is an academic course, and you must allow time for private study at home of at least 2 hours per week.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Face to face courses

You will need:

  • A ring binder(folder), lined paper, pens and pencils
  • Access to a computer/laptop and a printer
  • Online Courses

    Online courses will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom. To fully participate in this course, you will need:

    • An email address
    • A reliable internet connection
    • A computer / laptop / tablet with a fully updated browser, microphone, and webcam.

    Once enrolled, you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

    Depending on your eligibility, there are no fees to pay for this course.

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    We will prepare you for the Functional Skills Maths Level 3/ Level 1 course.

    We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
