Pilates - Improvers

Course intent

Pilates is a great way to build your core strength, flexibility, balance and improve mobility. It focuses on alignment, breathwork and core stability. Excellent for good physical and mental health

What will I learn?

The intent of this course is to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength, stamina, and spinal stability to improve general fitness, wellbeing but also improve posture, balance, and coordination.

Posture, strength and flexibility will be improved through a series of (mainly) floor-based exercises, introduced slowly over a period of weeks and then practised and perfected over the course. Variations on the basic exercises will allow you to practise at your level of fitness and movement.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course has been designed:

  • For adults with up to 2 years of Pilates practice
  • For adults looking to maintain or rehabilitate strength and movement.

The tutor will adapt all movements to suit you. Positions can be more challenging if suited.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Before the first lesson:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to reach up and bend down.
  • The class is performed in bare feet or gripper style Pilate socks.
  • Bring a bottle of drinking water. The centre has fountains to refill.
  • You will need a Pilates mat. Bring your own or borrow one of ours.
  • You will be using blocks, Pilate balls and bands. Please bring your own if you have them or borrow ours.
  • Please bring a small hand towel or if you have one a head block.
  • What can I do when I finish the course?

    Enrol on another Pilates Improvers course to maintain good physical health.

    We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
