Authentic Middle Eastern Breads

Course intent

Making homemade bread is a great everyday skill and a party piece that impresses!

You will learn how to make a range of both leavened and unleavened breads harkening from the Middle East and gain the confidence to experiment further with breadmaking in your own kitchen.

What will I learn?

You will concentrate on the techniques of preparing the dough and fillings for three breads:

  • Lebanese Lahme Bil Ajeen,
  • Kaf El Tamer Kaak – bread filled with date paste (v)
  • Manakeesh Flatbread topped with cheese and Zaatar (v)
  • Baba Ghanouj

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is designed for a range of cookery abilities, but not absolute beginners.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    Please ensure you have completed the following before the first session:

  • It is essential all cookery learners click this link https://customer.surreycc.gov.uk/sal-cookery-checklist - complete and submit.
  • You will be emailed a workbook. It will outline the ingredients & resources you need to bring and those that will be supplied.
  • Inform adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk if you need any adaptations to the recipes.
  • A container to take your dish(es) home

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    We offer a range of culinary workshops and courses throughout the term, look at our website for all the details. It would be great to see you again.

    We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
