Course intent
Enjoy an introduction to patchwork in a relaxed atmosphere. Start a new hobby, challenge yourself with new skills and learn how to make patchwork blocks suitable for incorporating into a cushion and other items.
What will I learn?

- Be introduced to basic patchwork skills and techniques whilst working at your own pace
- Learn about fabric choice, preparation and colour combining
- Be introduced to rotary cutting
- Learn how to join fabrics using a sewing machine
- Shown how to press patchwork seams
- Be provided with instruction for incorporating a patchwork block into a simple wrap-over cushion.
Creativity will be encouraged.
There will be opportunity to share ideas and patchwork experiences.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
.This course is for beginners who are starting out on their patchwork journey. No experience is necessary, although some familiarity with fabric, thread and a sewing machine would be useful.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
.A ‘needs list’ will be sent out before the start of the workshop which will include what you need to bring and where to source fabrics.
You are required to provide:
- your own fabrics and thread for your individual project and for testing techniques and machine stitches.
- You will also need a notepad and pen
- basic sewing equipment, eg pins, needles and scissors etc.
- Rotary cutting equipment and sewing machines belonging to the centre are available to use during the course.
What can I do when I finish the course?
.Patchwork, Quilting and Appliqué courses will be offered throughout the year including Patchwork - An Introduction to Seminole Patchwork - Beginners & Improvers Workshop on the 15th March; 4 full day sessions of Patchwork, Quilting and Appliqué - Beginners & Improvers on a Wednesday, starting on the 30th April, and again in the summer term on the 4th June. Patchwork - Make Pictorial Patchwork Blocks - Animals - Beginners & Improvers Workshop on the 7th June and Patchwork - Fun with Curves - Beginners & Improvers Workshop on the 21st June.

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
