Course intent
This course will take the stress out of cooking, giving you creative ideas on how to make the most of your money and time to make simple and effective dishes. A fun and social cook-along course with our highly experienced tutor Helen Little.
What will I learn?
The Easy Everyday Cookery course includes:
- top tips to save time, improve your planning and buy quality produce.
- enhanced knife skills, cookery skills & techniques
- using a range of kitchen gadgets
- a focus on seasonal produce
- fusing different flavours
- adaptations for specific diets – gluten free, lactose free or vegan for example
Recipes are based on the seasons but usually include a main dish and a dessert, then either a starter or side dishes. The course is largely learner-led, with the dishes taught being chosen with the learners’ wishes and tastes in mind. The tutor will evolve the course with the learners.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for a range of cookery skills, but not ideal for complete beginners. It will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom. To fully participate in this course, you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
- microphone and webcam.
Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Please ensure you have completed the following before the first session:
- It is essential all cookery learners click this link https://customer.surreycc.gov.uk/sal-cookery-checklist - complete and submit.
- You will receive an email outlining the ingredients & resources you need for the first lesson
- Inform adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk if you need any adaptations to the recipes.
What can I do when I finish the course?
We offer a range of culinary workshops and courses throughout the term, look at our website for all the details. It would be great to see you again.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
