Course intent
For those who are looking for basic understanding of draping to develop their garment making and pattern cutting skills in a 3-dimensional way.
What will I learn?
You will learn how to:
- Drape an upper body block on the mannequin
- Translate the block to a paper pattern
- Drape a simple dress
- Drape your unique design
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for beginners and those who wish to understand basic Draping.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You will need:
- 2-3 metres medium-weight calico or similar fabric for draping the toile
- Dressmaking pins and pincushion. Ideally with a strap that can be fixed on your wrist
- Fabric and paper scissors
- A ruler
- Set squares & French curves
- A tape measure
- A tracing wheel (+Carbon paper if you have)
- A pencil (regular, red and blue)
- 1-metre elastic - 1.5-2.5 cm (1/2-1”) in width
- A notebook
No other extra costs.
What can I do when I finish the course?
On completion of the workshop, you may like to join other pattern cutting and dressmaking courses offered by Surrey Adult Learning. Your tutor will advise on suitable courses.
