Course intent
Our conversation classes are ideal for those who want to continue practising their spoken language in a friendly, informal environment with the support of an experienced tutor. They are great as a standalone course or in combination with one of our language courses.
What will I learn?
Lessons will focus on developing your speaking skills to encourage you to apply and extend your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in verbal communication. You will work in pairs and groups to maximise the time you spend speaking in each lesson.
Conversation courses use a range of audio, video and written resources, including the use of course books, to spark discussion and conversation on a wide range of news, leisure and everyday topics.
This course is tailored to the needs and interests of the class. Our skilled tutors will ensure that you have the opportunity to practise speaking about a range of topics, as well as improve your social conversational skills.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Advanced Conversation is suitable for learners who have completed our Upper Intermediate level course, who have studied the language for seven or more years, or who have C1 level language skills in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
You should feel confident expressing your thoughts and argue your viewpoint convincingly. You should also have a good grasp of a range of tenses and more complex grammatical structures.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Please bring a notepad and pen.
Your tutor will advise you of any required materials. These typically cost £15 - £30 and will be used for more than one term / year.
You may wish to purchase additional study aids such as CDs, workbooks, dictionaries, and grammar books, which are optional.
What can I do when I finish the course?
You are welcome to participate in this course for as long as you wish to maintain and refine your language skills at a high level.
