Course intent
This course will introduce you to a wide array of techniques to bring out the artist in you and allow you to develop your understanding of the fundamentals of drawing and painting. You will use a range of drawing and painting media to develop your technical skills and creative flair.
You will be guided on your journey by a supportive tutor and learn a range of different styles and techniques in both painting and drawing. Art also has a range of wellbeing benefits gained through working in a friendly, supportive and creative learning environment.
What will I learn?
The intent of this course is for you to learn to become proficient at drawing and painting through gaining fundamental art skills and knowledge.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Describe and demonstrate mark making techniques used in drawing
- Identify the best methods to create tone in charcoal
- Describe and demonstrate key painting techniques
- Create a body of work (drawings and paintings) for your own portfolio or to hang proudly at home
Each week, you will learn different techniques and build your art skills in manageable steps. We will cover a range of subject matter throughout this five week course to help you grow in skill and confidence.
For courses of more than one session, you will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn drawing and painting from a beginner level and is also suitable for those who have done a workshop or previous course. However, you do not need to have any previous knowledge in the subject, just an interest and willingness to learn. Your tutor will guide you and help you to develop at your own pace.
