Course intent
Whether you are a beginner or already have some experience flower arranging, you will learn the knowledge and skills needed to make beautiful designs that last. Enjoy the well-being benefits gained through working in a friendly, creative learning environment.
What will I learn?
During this course you will celebrate the beautiful flowers and foliage that grows in SPRING as you will learn about
- Creating different designs both modern and traditional
- Colour, form and structure
- How to design for different locations and occasions
- The skills you need to select flowers, foliage and materials for your arrangements
- How to keep flowers fresh
- Flower names
- Floristry trade secrets, tips and techniques
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for all levels of ability. No previous experience is necessary. Each week there will be new designs and techniques to learn with skills built in for both beginners and for those wishing to refine their technical and design skills in a friendly, focused class.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
If you are a beginner, the tutor can advise which tools to choose and where to buy in the first lesson
Equipment:
- scissors
- bucket for flowers
- plastic sheet or cloth to work on
- small knife
- notebook and pen
- a camera/use the camera on your phone to record your work
- wear closed toe shoes
- an apron or wear old clothes
Materials
A list of materials will be sent out prior to the start date. Each week you will be given guidance on suitable materials, flowers and foliage to bring and/or purchase for the following week.
What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto the follow-on flower arranging course Flower Arranging - Designs for Spring and Summer (NEW) - All Abilities which starts in the Spring term. There are also other Saturday workshops available that cover a range of topics from seasonal specialities to wedding flowers and themed designs across the academic year. Your tutor may suggest that you prepare and apply for a recognised qualification if you are interested in becoming a commercial florist.

If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
