Course intent

You will learn to become confident and more independent at using a computer and the Windows Operating System, increasing your digital skills and awareness of online safety.

All content is aligned with the national standards for essential digital skills.

    There are three ways to apply on this course. You can:

    • complete the form on our website;
    • call us on 0300 200 1044, 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday; or
    • visit one of our centres.

    We'll evaluate your skills and provide a course offer, which you must accept to secure your place.

    What will I learn?

    .You will

    • Identify Desktop Icons and use the Windows operating system to navigate a computer
    • Prepare a simple document using a mouse and keyboard
    • Identify and use different files and folders
    • Use the internet to search for information and complete an online form
    • Identify different ways to keep yourself and your data safe
    • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
    • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

      ·         Anyone with basic mouse and keyboard skills and able to create and save files and folders.

      What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

      .You need to bring:

      • a notebook and pen
      • What can I do when I finish the course?

        .You may like to progress onto another Surrey Adult learning course, such as:

        • Windows PC Digital Skills & Confidence – Stages 2 – 6

        • Microsoft – Word-processing – Word

        .We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
