Italian Intermediate - Module 2 (Online)

Course intent

Our Intermediate courses will give you the opportunity to express yourself fluently and accurately on a range of topics. They will introduce you to more complex grammar and vocabulary that will help you to freely discuss a range of topics, cultural issues and practicalities of life abroad.

What will I learn?

Our Intermediate language courses aim to build your language skills by using authentic cultural materials to help you extend your vocabulary and examine grammar in context. Each course will be tailored to meet the needs and interests of the group, but example topics include:

  • discussion of news and current affairs
  • films, plays, books, songs, culture, and humour
  • discovering regions of the world in which the language is spoken together with their customs and traditions
  • learning how to deal with practical aspects of daily life overseas
  • travelling, working, and retiring in the country

There are nine modules in the Intermediate course, each one building on the last. You will be introduced to a variety of materials such as news articles, TV programmes and literature.

Our experienced tutors will tailor the course to ensure that every learner reaches their own language-learning goals. They may also give you additional tasks to complete outside of the lesson to help you make the most of your course.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Intermediate language courses are for those who can already express themselves confidently in a range of everyday situations. You may have completed our Lower Intermediate course, studied the language for five or more years, or be working towards B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages.

If you have a good knowledge of the language or have studied the language for seven years or more, you may find an Upper Intermediate course more suitable. You can also complete our self-assessment (available in the Languages section of the Surrey Adult Learning website) to find the best level for you.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

We recommend bringing paper and pen to every lesson so you can make notes.

Your tutor will also advise you of any required course books, which typically cost £15-30. They will also be able to recommend other optional resources that you may find useful for your learning.

This course will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom. To fully participate in this course, you will need:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer / laptop / tablet with a fully updated browser, microphone and webcam.
  • If you struggle to read printed text on a screen and you want to print resources, you will need access to a printer.

Once enrolled, you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

What can I do when I finish the course?

The Intermediate course runs over nine modules and three years. When you have finished one module, you will be ready to move on to the next.

After completing all nine modules, you will have achieved B1 Intermediate level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages. You can then move on to one of our Upper Intermediate courses, which correspond to the CEFR B2 Upper Intermediate level. B2 is the equivalent of A Level standard.
