Course intent
Learn to play this fascinating and analytical card game. Bridge is a trick-taking game, like Whist, but with more sophisticated scoring. It’s a sociable and intellectually stimulating game, played at home, or at Bridge clubs, and increasingly online.
What will I learn?
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- understand the mechanics of the game
- start using the Standard English ACOL bidding system
- acquire basic card play technique
- begin to learn scoring
Our courses build on past learning, week by week, to develop new skills and abilities. You will find you make the most progress if you attend every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for beginners and those who know a little about the game. You may be asked to study independently for 10 minutes a day.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You may be required to purchase the English Bridge Union (EBU) Beginning Bridge Book One. Please discuss this with your tutor at the first lesson before buying this textbook.
What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may wish to progress from this course to Improvers. Our Bridge courses are planned to provide a clear pathway for progression, through the academic year, and beyond.
