Course intent
This is an ideal place to start your journey. You will gain confidence and skills in drawing and then on to watercolour painting, where you will learn techniques to help develop your skills and imagination through a mixture of practice, discussion and tutor demonstrations.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- skills in tone, colour and composition through practice & demonstration
- Researching & inspiring other artists work
- Gaining confidence in using drawing & painting materials
- to help you discover and develop your abilities through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques
- A pen, a ruler
- A4 cartridge paper (tutor recommends Daler Rowney)
- Pencils: 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B
- A sharpener or craft knife and a plastic rubber.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Beginners, but learners with a little experience of drawing and painting are welcome as well as those who have gained some additional experience through our one-day workshops.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

The tutor will discuss painting equipment once you have started the course. If you have any queries before the course starts, please email the tutor on adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk

In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto further Art courses

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
