Sewing for Home - Make a Roman Blind - All Abilities

Course intent

Learn to measure and make a simple Roman blind from scratch. We will use widely available and budget conscious materials, remnant fabrics, re-use and recycle trimming, to make a beautiful but inexpensive Roman blind.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to

• measure and calculate fabric quantities
• use basic machine sewing functions
• hand sew elements of the blind
• string up and fold the blind
• simple decorative techniques with waste fabric/ribbons.
• install your completed blind

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring:

If you have a small window you would like to tackle, please contact your tutor with specific measurements

Otherwise, for your practice blind, you will need to bring:

• 1 metre of outer fabric
• 1metre of lining fabric.
• Reel of matching machine thread.
• Hand sewing needles.
• A metre ruler and dressmakers tape measure.
• pencil/paper

You will also need to buy wooden dowelling for your rods, blind cords, blind rings etc, but will be advised on exact amounts after the first session.
