Social Media An Introduction to Facebook (Online) [HPT]

Course intent

You will learn how to use Facebook to share photos and videos keeping withing copyright laws, understand and use hashtags, set up your profile safely and get some practical experience working around the platform. This course is aimed at learners who have already set up a Facebook account

What will I learn?

The following topics are included on the course:

  • An overview of social media, its benefits and conventions
  • Establish your profile
  • Set up personal preferences/security settings/Notifications
  • Search for friends/family and invite to add to your account
  • Understand the differences between private and public messaging – writing, liking, replying, and commenting.
  • Look at sharing photos and videos
  • Observe demonstrations as well as having practical experience of using Facebook
  • Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values
  • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for learners who have already set up a Facebook account but, have not started to use it.

    You must have basic mouse, keyboard/tablet & internet skills including how to

    • Open and save files
    • Use cut, copy and paste.
    • Search for images online
    • Save and recover your files

    If you are completely new to computers, please look at our Digital Skills & Confidence courses first.

    This course will be delivered through a live online session using Zoom

    To fully participate in this course, you will need:

    An email address

    • A reliable internet connection
    • A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
    • A working microphone and webcam.
    • Have details of at least one contact (family member or friend) who already uses Facebook.

    Once enrolled on this course you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    To fully participate in this course, you will need:

    • Access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection
    • A working microphone, and webcam
    • Details of at least one contact (family member or friend) who already uses Facebook.

    If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.
