Course intent
You will use the popular Excel software, part of the Microsoft Office suite, to create more advanced spreadsheets, incorporating formatting and functions to automate and design workbooks and worksheets. Excel is a powerful spreadsheet tool which can help you produce personal budgets, record work expenses, present data with colourful charts and graphs and much more on this face-to-face course.
If you use/have used a different spreadsheet programme, the skills learned here are easily transferrable.
What will I learn?
You will:
- Create a spreadsheet
- Input and format both text and numbers on a worksheet
- Use mathematical operators (+ / * -) to perform calculations
- Use basic formula and functions to analyse data
- Create simple charts from worksheet data
- Save and print a worksheet template for future use
- Observe and discuss Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values

This beginner’s course is for
- Anyone with good computer, mouse and keyboard skills and have a basic knowledge of Excel.
- If you are new to Excel or spreadsheets, please try our Excel – Introduction or Stage 1 course first.
- If you are new to computers, please look at our Digital Skills & Confidence courses
To fully participate in this course, you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser,
- microphone and webcam.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
To fully participate in this course, you will need:
- Access to a computer/laptop/tablet with a reliable internet connection
- A working microphone, and webcam
If you struggle to read printed text on a screen, you may find it beneficial to have access to a printer to make your own hard copies of resources.
