Acrylic & Oil Painting - All Abilities (Model for 1 week)

Course intent

Explore a range of basic methods of acrylic and oil painting in a friendly, creative learning environment. By using photographs, researched images or direct observation, you will start to develop your life drawing/painting skills. There will be a (clothed) model on one week and we will also introduce an element of Oil Painting in the term.

What will I learn?

How to distinguish the use of tone, colour, composition and perspective

  • To use of variety of techniques, brushwork and textural effects
  • How to use different materials and be encouraged to take part in group discussions and have access to one-to-one support
  • How to paint from a live model
  • How to develop personal expression through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques
  • Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    .This course is suitable for all abilities, from beginners to those with a little or more experience of acrylic painting. You will be able to work to your own ability and at your own pace with tutor guidance and inspiration.

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    .You need to bring:

    • A sketchbook and pen
    • Any drawing and painting materials you may already have
    • Basic set of acrylic paint & brushes
    • A3 & A4 Acrylic paper/canvas or board
    • 2B, 4B, 6B pencils
    • A putty rubber and sharpener

    Throughout the course you will require other materials. The tutor will advise you what you need in advance.

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    .In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto other Arts & Crafts courses or one-day specialist workshops with SAL.
