Photography - The Art & Techniques of Digital Photography - Beginners (Online)

Course intent

You will gain a greater understanding of digital photography and how your camera works. Be able to work with the camera in ‘Manual’ and ‘priority’ modes. Explore and work with other features in your camera to achieve more creative pictures.

You will need EITHER a D-SLR, Bridge camera and Mirrorless camera for this course. (Smartphones are not acceptable for this course – there are specific one-day workshops available for Smartphone photography).

What will I learn?

.You will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of how your digital camera works.
  • Get off the AUTO setting on your camera and understand how available light influences the use of shutter speed, aperture and ISO and have more control over the picture taking process.
  • Be more confident in using your camera and be encouraged to take part in group discussions and feedback/evaluations of the projects throughout the course.
  • Exploring and discovering other photographers’ work/styles. Build a portfolio of work.

There will be homework every week, you will find you make the most progress if you complete the tasks given throughout the course as well as attending every taught lesson and complete any self-directed study opportunities provided.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

.This course is for any camera user (D-SLR, Bridge camera and Mirrorless camera) with the abilities to change Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO. Suitable for learners with no prior experience of digital cameras, those upgrading from an existing digital camera or those who have used 35mm film cameras.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

.You will need: · Your own Digital camera (Fully charged with a memory card) at least one lens and the instruction booklet · Fully charged batteries · A notebook and pen · A sketchbook or portfolio to keep a record of your images as you progress · An email address for receiving course notes and having access to the Handouts provided (either electronically or printed)

Your tutor will be able to give you impartial advice as to the purchasing of additional equipment
