Course intent
You will learn the skills needed to gain a deeper understanding of the processes whilst developing personal expression in your painting.
According to your level, you will develop painting skills, gaining a deeper understanding of the range of methods and processes.

- Acrylic Painting techniques
- The correct use of materials and tools
- the use of a sketchbook,
- the use of photographs and found images in developing an image,
- Painting from direct observation
- Colour
- Tonal values
- Composition
- The work of other artists and their techniques and styles
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
.This course is for all abilities.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
.You need to bring:
- A pencil
- a sketchbook
- Oil or acrylic paints
- Canvas, canvas board or canvas paper
- Brushes
- A palette knife
- A palette
- Low odour thinner for oils such as ‘Zest-it’ or ‘Sansodor’
Materials and resources you will need through the course will be discussed at induction.
What can I do when I finish the course?
.To progress onto other SAL courses and specific one-day workshops. Learners may wish to progress on a more advanced course or one covering different painting materials in more depth.
