Course intent
Come along and create a series of seascape paintings, with the option to paint calm waters and rough seas, sunsets and reflections. You will use large brushes, palette knives, old plastic membership cards and rags. This fun short course will encourage you to loosen up in your painting style and explore the properties of oil or acrylic paint within a range of seascape paintings.
What will I learn?
You will be shown paint mixing, how to handle the palette knife, different techniques with large brushes, rags (and standard brushes) to create marks and textures. You will be given tips and advice about seascape painting and reflections.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
All levels of ability. Some experience with other art classes would be helpful.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
• You will need to bring an apron/old shirt that you don’t mind getting paint on
- A set of oils or acrylics, an old plastic membership card, a decorating brush (and any other large brushes that you own already), rags i.e. an old towel or tea towel and at least one metal palette knife
- The tutor recommends having a small trowel shaped one (eg, RGM brand – No.1 or 41)
- A few different surfaces i.e. a canvas or canvas board and a few different source photos of seascapes, ideally some with waves in (the tutor will have some too).
What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto an oils and acrylics course or enhance your learning at a drawing and painting course or attend art talks.
