Course intent
You will gain a greater understanding of digital photography, improving your techniques and creativity.. You will need to be comfortable with the camera in ‘Manual’ and/or ‘priority’ modes. You will gain an understanding of how to print high quality images.
You will need EITHER a D-SLR Camera, a Bridge or Hybrid camera for this course. (Smartphones are not acceptable for this course – there are specific one-day workshops available for Smartphone photography).
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- The ability to comfortably use the ‘Priority’ and ‘Manual’ modes
- An understanding of Composition
- Using flash
- A ‘field trip’ to enable you to hone your skills
- Saving and printing high-quality images
Learners will be inspired by the contemporary and historical context and will need to keep a sketchbook to record ideas, processes and progress, and the feedback they receive from the tutor.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
The course is suitable for those who have completed a Beginners course (or who have a very good working knowledge of cameras). However, if you have not completed a Beginners course with SAL, it is strongly advised that the learner checks with the tutor before enrolling.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You will need:
- Your own Digital camera with a memory card, at least one lens and the instruction booklet
- Fully charged batteries
- A notebook and pen
- A sketchbook or portfolio to keep a record of your images
Your tutor will be able to give you impartial advice as to the purchasing of additional equipment
What can I do when I finish the course?
There are courses on post-production (Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom) as well as specific one-day workshops.
