Family Learning - Bring Stories to Life and share with your Child

Course intent

You will develop your skills and knowledge to support your child’s understanding of books, plots and characters. This will positively impact on your family wellbeing

What will I learn?

This is a FREE online three-week course (2-hour sessions). You will work with the tutor and other parents to develop an understanding of story plots and how to make predictions. Learn how to make connections between stories and to summarise what you have read. Read about and discuss main characters and how they bring stories to life. Share well-known celebrity's favourite books and characters. Understand how to use and develop all this information with your child.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents who live in Surrey and want to Learn how to bring stories to life . Delivered on Zoom

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    What do I need to know:

  • Have your camera on
  • Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
  • Please attend all sessions
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
  • A pen and paper
  • Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
  • Fill out the ‘Getting to know you form and the `Tell us what you think` form
  • Contact us on family.learning@surreycc.gov.uk if you have any questions

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    At the end of this course we will give you details of what you can move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning, a college or employment

    We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
