Course intent
Develop your skills in drawing and sketching in a friendly, creative learning environment.
Focusing on drawing the natural world around us, we will explore tonal value, line, texture, proportion and perspective using various mediums and techniques. We will cover natural and human forms, still life, landscape and much more with each term focusing on a famous master’s technique. We will also practice life drawing using a clothed model for one session.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- The basic principles of observational drawing and sketching using line, tone, form, perspective and composition
- A wide variety of drawing and sketching techniques using various mediums including graphite & coloured pencils, watercolours paints, charcoal, pens and soft pastels
- Develop your drawing skills using picture reference and working from life to draw various subjects and natural forms, landscapes and still life objects
- Safeguarding, Prevent & British Values
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for all abilities, from beginners to those with a little more experience.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- A sketchbook and pen
- Any drawing materials you may already have
- An A3 & A4 Sketchpad or cartridge paper
- 2B, 4B, 6B pencils
- A putty rubber and sharpener
Throughout the course you will also require various other drawing materials and the tutor will advise you what you need in advance.
What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor you may like to progress onto another course or one-day specialist workshops with SAL.
