Course intent

This course is for learners who are over 19 years of age. It could help you improve your everyday English language skills. The course could help you at home and work by improving your skills in speaking and listening and writing. In class, you will do activities such as individual work, pair exercises, and group tasks. You will also receive regular homework. At the end of this course, you could gain Trinity ESOL Skills for Life Entry 2 qualifications. You will sit both speaking and listening as well as a writing exam.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to listen to short dialogues. You will be able to answer simple questions and identify meanings of everyday words. You will ask simple questions and describe people, places, objects and events. You will be able to write short sentences. You will use simple spelling, punctuation and grammar. There will be focus on exams while you learn.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

You need to be 19 or over on the 31st of August 2024.

Entry Requirements

You will need to complete an online initial assessment. This will help us place you on the correct course.

Attendance

This course runs two days a week. Each lesson is 2.5 hours long if the class is face to face. Online classes run two days a week and each class lasts 2 hours. The course runs for 22 weeks from January to July. You will be required to attend at least 90% of your classes. Should your attendance fall below this, your place on the course may be at risk. This is an academic course, and you must allow time for private study at home of at least 2 hours per week.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

Face to face courses

You will need:

  • A ring binder(folder), lined paper, pens and pencils
  • Access to a computer/laptop and a printer

Online Courses

Online courses will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom. To fully participate in this course, you will need:

  • An email address
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer / laptop / tablet with a fully updated browser, microphone, and webcam.

Once enrolled, you will receive detailed instructions for taking part online.

Depending on your eligibility, there are no fees to pay for this course.

What can I do when I finish the course?

If you pass both the speaking and listening and writing exams, you could progress to Entry 3 reading.
