Family Learning - Using Play, Songs and Stories to Support Your Child's Early Years

Course intent

You will develop your skills and knowledge in understanding importance of early communication skills This will positively impact on your family wellbeing

What will I learn?

This is a FREE online two-week course (2-hour sessions). You will work with the tutor and other parents to develop your skills using play, songs and stories to support your child's early communication skills. Learn how your child language develops from birth and how you can support them to learn language as they develop. We will use songs, children's rhymes and stories and look at how using sign language can support the language development of your child.

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for parents, carers and grandparents of a new born to reception, who live in Surrey and want have a positive impact on their child’s early development. This will be delivered online via Zoom

    What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

    What do I need to know:

  • Have your camera on
  • Provide a mobile phone number and email address when you enrol so that we can contact you about your course.
  • Please attend all sessions
  • A reliable internet connection
  • A computer/laptop/tablet or phone with a fully updated browser (preferably Google Chrome), microphone and camera
  • A pen and paper
  • Check your email for detailed joining instructions two days before course starts.
  • Fill out the `Getting to know you` form and fill out `Tell us what you think` form
  • Contact us on family.learning@surreycc.gov.uk if you have any questions

    What can I do when I finish the course?

    At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you can move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning, such as ESOL, or join a college or get a job

    Additional information

    We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
