Family Learning - Understanding Your Child's Secondary School for ESOL Parents

Course intent

You will develop your skills and knowledge in how school education works in England and gain practical ideas how to support your child in secondary school. This will be positive for your family wellbeing

What will I learn?

On this FREE online five-week course (2-hour sessions), you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to learn how to support your children’s learning in secondary education. You will:

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

If you are new to the UK, went to school in Hong Kong and are a parent/carer of a child aged 11-16, this course will help you understand how the school system works in England and how to help your child with their learning.. This is delivered online via Zoom

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

What can I do when I finish the course?

At the end of this course, we will give you details of what you can move on to next, for example volunteering, further courses with Surrey Adult Learning, such as ESOL, or join a college or get a job

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
