Course intent
An intensive course to introduce you to the wonderful world of oil painting. The course will help you to discover a range of basic methods of oil painting using a sketchbook, photographs, found images or direct observation.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- to distinguish the use of tone, colour, composition and perspective
- how to use both drawing and painting materials with confidence
- correct cleaning of equipment
- how to develop personal expression, through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is designed for beginners with the tutor teaching techniques and skills step-by-step. This means that all learners will be able to watch each part of the process before having a go themselves.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- an A3 pad of 300gsm cartridge paper
- soft grade pencils (4B or 6B)
- soft rubber
- graphite stick
What can I do when I finish the course?
In discussion with your tutor, you may like to progress onto other fine art courses with SAL, or other providers.
