Drawing & Painting - Animals using soft chalk pastels - All Abilities Workshop [SSK]

Course intent

Learn how to use soft chalk pastels and/or pastel pencils to draw and paint a chosen animal. You will be shown how to use colour to bring your pastel painting to life.

  • Drawing from observation from a 2D source
  • How to use soft chalk pastels
  • how to give your drawing structure
  • how to describe shape and form
  • colour mixing and colour theory
  • How to mix colours using soft pastels
  • how to use colour to bring your pastel painting to life
  • How to use pastel pencils to add detail

    Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

    This course is suitable for people who need a refresher or who want to refine their skills further and be inspired by a new subject matter or a new media.

For adults aged 18 years or older.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

You need to bring:

  • pencils (graphite pencils HB and 2B)
  • eraser
  • sharpener
  • pastel paper pad (light tones)
  • a set of soft, chalk pastels
  • a set of pastel pencils
  • a palette or white plate to mix on
  • tissues or kitchen roll
  • Pastel fixative, hairspray will work
  • optional- photographs of your choice of animal

What can I do when I finish the course?

Learners can progress onto many opportunities to take up other art & craft classes, including further watercolour, drawing and painting courses or one-day specific workshops.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
