Course intent
Have you tried some patchwork techniques and have blocks to make up, or just have some beautiful fabrics? Why not make some cushions. Match them to your interior spaces or your al fresco area. This workshop aims to introduce ‘how to make a cushion’ and shows a range of styles.
What will I learn?
The workshop will cover:
- elements of design and functionality
- preparing fabrics
- measuring and marking
- joining fabrics by machine
- adding a border to fabric
- adding piping
- fastenings for cushion backs
The Tutor will be available to discuss your individual project.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This practical workshop is for people who enjoy sewing and is designed for all ability levels. If you are a beginner some familiarity with fabric, thread and a sewing machine would be beneficial. More experienced learners will be encouraged to develop and enhance their skills.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
A ‘needs list’ will be sent out before the start of the workshop which will include what you need to bring and where to source fabrics.
What can I do when I finish the course?
This workshop can be studied in isolation or considered as an introduction into a much larger subject area that makes a creative hobby. Further Patchwork and Quilting courses will be offered throughout the year by Surrey Adult Learning to develop the newly acquired skills and this subject area. Occasional Saturday classes and other Needlecraft classes will also be offered. For further details, please visit our website – www.surreycc.gov.uk/adultlearnng
