Pottery & Claywork - Practical Glazing of Bisqueware Workshop

Course intent

A half day workshop to learn practical glazing on a bisque fired work.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to glaze bisque fired work and have the opportunity to experiment with wax resist technique and use oxides over transparent or opaque glazes. You will learn how to safely use the glazes and to safeguard your work / others work as well as the kiln and kiln shelves during a firing.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

This course is open to all levels. We can only glaze fire work that has been made using clay at a Surrey Adult Learning centre. If your work has been made and bisque fired at a SAL centre other than Guildford, you will need to provide the clay name / type and firing temperature details as well as the name of your tutor.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

§ Sensible closed-toe shoes (no sandals, heels or flip flops permitted)

What can I do when I finish the course?

You may enrol in a longer pottery course in the autumn term and there are also other one-day workshops in July as part of our summer skills programme.

Additional information

A note about the Guildford site: There are steps leading to and inside the Guildford pottery studio so if you have mobility concerns you may find it easier to travel to Woking, Camberley or Farnham where there is better access.

How to enrol

Our courses are for adult learners aged 19 or over. If you are under 19, please call 0300 200 1044.
