Course intent
This workshop will give you a short introduction to the clocks and clock repairing. You will explore a clock, its mechanisms, and how to look for faults and problems. You will then carry out key repairs using a variety of techniques, hopefully to get it into working order.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
- how a clock works
- how to safely dismantle and reassemble a clock
- typical repair procedures
- how to clean, oil and assemble to working order
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is for beginners or those who need to brush up their skills.
Please note, due to the specific restoration requirements of each project, it may not be possible for each clock to be repaired in one session. For longer projects, please sign up to a term time course.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You need to bring:
- a clock with a pendulum to work on
- plastic boxes with sealable lids to put parts in
- any tools you might have (screwdrivers, pliers, tweezers, small spanner(s) or an adjustable spanner etc.)
- a notebook and pen
- closed toe shoes
- apron or wear old clothes
For any queries, please email adultlearning@surreycc.gov.uk
What can I do when I finish the course?
