Course intent
Strong for Longer is a collection of strength and confidence-building courses adapted to you, whatever your stage in life. These unique courses provide you with an opportunity to regain and maintain the skills and knowledge to protect your health now and in the future. Strong for Longer courses are aimed at adults of all ages looking to increase their day-to-day movement and improve their muscle strength.
The course works at your level.
What will I learn?
You will learn:
A range of yoga postures in standing and seated positions.
Breathing exercises (pranayama) and relaxation techniques.
Hatha yoga which involves moving into and holding postures.
How to use blocks and/or cushions, to help you achieve better alignment.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
Strong for Longer courses are ideal if you:
Want to start or reintroduce yoga into your week.
Want to exercise seated or holding onto a barre.
Feel confident with light to moderate physical activity.
Want to maintain or rehabilitate strength and movement.
Our expert tutors will adapt all movements to suit individual health & wellbeing needs.
This course will be delivered through live online sessions using Zoom. To participate, you will need:
An email address
A reliable internet connection
A computer/laptop /tablet with a fully updated browser
microphone and webcam.
Once enrolled, you will receive instructions for joining Zoom.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Before the first lesson:

Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to reach up and bend down. Add an extra warm layer or light blanket for use in relaxation.
Yoga is practised with bare feet.
Have a bottle of drinking water.
Please have a sturdy chair, a yoga mat and small cushions or yoga blocks to support knees, hips and back.
You will need a suitable space, in which you can move safely, at least 2m x 2m.
What can I do when I finish the course?
When you finish your course, you can either enrol on another Strong for Longer course to maintain good physical health or use the course as a stepping stone to our more challenging courses when you feel stronger and more confident.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol, please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
