What are Skills Bootcamps?
Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks for Surrey residents. Sign up to gain new skills and fast-track your future.
With a guaranteed interview with a local employer on course completion, you could be getting 2025 off to a great start!
For businesses, it's a great low-cost way to upskill your employees with knowledge to help your organisation evolve and grow in the future.

Eligibility
To take part in Skills Bootcamps from Surrey County Council, you must:
- Be aged 19 or over
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Live in Surrey (with an eligible Surrey postcode)
- Meet residency requirements (the training provider can check this)
If you claim Universal Credit, you can apply and continue to claim benefits.
Some Skills Bootcamps have additional eligibility criteria.

Course provider: Equal Engineers
Module highlights: This engineering Skills Bootcamps course places a strong emphasis on hands-on activities, site visits, and real-world projects. We offer guaranteed interviews for a relevant role to everyone who completes the course.
In the first two weeks you will learn about health and safety, mechanical, electrical, and fluid power engineering principles, project management, quality control, computer aided design (CAD), automation and software engineering, including condition monitoring, predictive maintenance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and more.
In the last week, we support you to build your CV, understand job applications and practise interviews over three days.
If you complete the course, you will also benefit from six months of mentoring from an experienced engineering professional.

Module highlights: A great first step into health and social care, allowing you to gain valuable skills, recognised qualifications, and direct routes to employment, significantly boosting your career prospects in the sector.
Key modules include Introduction to Care, Safeguarding, Emergency First Aid, Person-Centred Care, and Medical Administration.
The program ensures robust training with accredited qualifications, including the Level 3 Applied General Award in Health and Social Care, Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness, and Level 2 Award for Emergency First Aid for Mental Health.
Duration: 180 hours - three days a week for 12 weeks

Module highlights: This Skills Bootcamp has been designed for those individuals who wish to work as a qualified, accredited insulation installer within the UK.
Our fully remote course allows you more flexibility to train during evenings and weekends which leads to an accredited Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Insulation and Building Treatments.
It will give you the chance to learn a range of building insulation skills that provide you with an opportunity to gain a new role working within the energy sector. During the training, you'll learn to carry out a range of insulation measures including Installing external wall insulation and applying surface finishes to external wall insulation in the workplace.

Module highlights: Gain the knowledge and skills you need to assess the energy efficiency of a home and provide recommendations for improving its energy performance. Full accreditation on graduation.
Ideally, you will have experience or interest in the built-environment and housing sector or are looking to make a career change into retrofit.

Module highlights: You will understand how to carry out basic domestic retrofit installations and understand how to retrofit and apply energy efficiency measures to older housing stock. Full accreditation on graduation.
This programme is designed for those working in the construction trades wishing to expand their knowledge and understanding of Domestic Retrofit.
If you are currently employed in the trades, your application will need to be supported by your employer (or business, if self-employed).
Duration: 60 hours over eight weeks
Location: Blended (mix of face-to-face and online). Online tutoring takes place Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Module highlights: This Skills Bootcamp enables learners with at least 2-years' experience in either gas, heating, or air conditioning to upskill to install and maintain air source heat pumps as we move towards Net Zero.
You will be trained and assessed on your practical and theoretical competence throughout the course to ensure you meet the criteria to install and maintain air source heat pumps.
Applicants must be employed or self-employed learners with at least two years' experience in either gas, heating, or air conditioning.
Duration: 60 hours

Module highlights: These Skills Bootcamps are aimed at practicing electricians wishing to upskill and achieve nationally recognised qualifications in Green Electrical technology.
There are two courses available: Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems and Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment.
Applicants for both courses must hold a current 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification and a formal Level 3 electrical qualification (see entry requirements on website).
Duration: 80 hours (one day a week for 12 weeks)

Skills Bootcamps for businesses
Skills Bootcamps can also be used by local businesses to upskill current employees at a discounted rate.
Large employers will need to contribute 30% of the cost. Small or medium employers (SMEs) will contribute 10%.
There is no cost to a business recruiting someone who has recently completed a Skills Bootcamp.
